Distance rumbles sound loud and clear
as seas wash up the shore and pebbles disappear
cormorants fish and terns soar
seagulls swoop into the downpour
flags flutter in breeze
and people swim
and enjoy themselves too
day at the seaside
with an ice cream too
walking along the prom
as brass bands play a tune
merry go rounds spin at the fair
as rollercoaster go up stairs
and rolls down too
kids scream and parents laugh too
sun try to shine as break in the clouds appear
dogs run around barking
and people fish on the pier
Palmerston follies out at sea
stand the test of time guarding southsea
they were built a long time ago
fortresses at sea
keep the french out
and protect the southsea
and Portsmouth too
back in nelson time when victory was due
a time when Portsmouth was the home of the navy too
a day out in southsea and stroll in fresh air too
beauty of the coast and my home too.
