By heavens light they sail away
through Portsmouth’s entrance
across the sea
many sailors have sailed in once
our great navy
from time of Nelson’s great navy
Copenhagen,Ashanti , Nile and Trafalgar
to the home of britain royal navy
is where they sail from Portsmouth
a city full of fine magnificent history
from great first and second world wars
right back to king henry viii and the Elizabethans
the pride of Portsmouth is known for being mighty
in modern times Falklands , gulf and my others times
Portsmouth has had its part to play in history
Field Marshall Montgomery
even enjoyed his football and watched our local team play
before and many great women and men of our services
left to fight on french beaches at d day
by heavens light did they sail away
stars guiding them to war and home
again with pride they were guarded by
our many ships of the great
Royal navy
Portsmouth the home of our proud Royal Navy

a football club with an almighty roar
As fratton end lights up and sings today
an almighty roar is heard as the game is played
away fans shiver and tremble too
as they hear the fratton faithful
roar into song with their favourite tune
as they have entered fratton park
Pompey’s famous home ground too
where we won fa cup and played many famous teams
in our day
and many famous people have been and gone away
legends in football and for england
have set foot on this turf and played hear so magnificently
as part of this proud Pompey team we see
while Pompey chimes have rung out for all to hear
they sing from the heart so loud and clear
Pompey, Pompey play up Pompey
that is what the away fans fear
play up Pompey play up Pompey
you will hear
as the great fans cheer and cheer as Pompey
their famous football team is playing here
the fratton faithful will always sing and cheer
play up Pompey play up Pompey
for all to hear as they sing and support

Distance rumbles sound loud and clear
as seas wash up the shore and pebbles disappear
cormorants fish and terns soar
seagulls swoop into the downpour
flags flutter in breeze
and people swim
and enjoy themselves too
day at the seaside
with an ice cream too
walking along the prom
as brass bands play a tune
merry go rounds spin at the fair
as rollercoaster go up stairs
and rolls down too
kids scream and parents laugh too
sun try to shine as break in the clouds appear
dogs run around barking
and people fish on the pier
Palmerston follies out at sea
stand the test of time guarding southsea
they were built a long time ago
fortresses at sea
keep the french out
and protect the southsea
and Portsmouth too
back in nelson time when victory was due
a time when Portsmouth was the home of the navy too
a day out in southsea and stroll in fresh air too
beauty of the coast and my home too.
